Bowman Street Substation (Farmingdale)

Project Overview

As part of our commitment to provide safe, reliable service to all our customers, Central Maine Power Company (CMP) is upgrading its Bowman Street Substation at 56 Substation Road in Farmingdale.

Project Purpose and Need 

Avangrid Networks, the parent company of CMP, recently conducted a comprehensive, multi-year transmission planning study to examine the need for electrical system improvements. Through this effort that we call the Brightline BES Project, we identified key areas of our system that require upgrades to comply with newer Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) standards and to update asset conditions. Bowman Street Substation was identified in the study.

Planned upgrades to this 115/34.5kV substation include new transformers and circuit breakers, and the relocation of the existing transmission line to connect to a new substation bay. Aged equipment throughout the substation also will be replaced.

The 34.5kV line sections and circuits are interconnected with other distribution substations in the towns of Augusta, Dresden, Gardiner, Hallowell and Manchester for energy supply to industrial, commercial and residential customers.
