CMP Grid and Climate Planning
As we look to the future, we are assessing Maine’s energy needs and identifying solutions to meet the growing demand for electricity amid the impacts of stronger, more frequent storms. Join us here for the latest information on the plans to assure safe, reliable power that meets the opportunities and challenges of our changing Maine climate.
CMP Grid and Climate Planning
Integrated Grid Planning
CMP’s Integrated Grid Plan will assist in the cost-effective design of the electric grid to support achievement of Maine’s reliability, affordability, and clean energy goals. The Company is required to file its Integrated Grid Plan (IGP) by January 12, 2026.
Our grid plan will establish a framework for a smarter, stronger, more resilient grid with the following priorities:
-
Ensure reliability and resiliency of the grid to reduce outages and ensure the grid can withstand increased storm and climate impacts.
-
Enhance data collection from across the grid for use in system mapping and planning.
-
Align with the State’s climate goals and, the State’s energy plan.
Climate Change Planning
CMP’s Climate Change Protection Plan is a 10-year plan that evaluates grid vulnerabilities and identifies measures such as installing tree-resistant electrical wires, reinforcing poles to withstand stronger and more frequent storms, and adding automation devices to manage outages and meet the demands of our customers well into the future. View the full plan.
These planning processes are collaborative with key stakeholders from several areas included in technical review of the data and potential solutions to meet our customers' electricity needs. Most importantly, we are committed to engaging our customers and the communities we serve. Stay informed about our work, community meetings, and opportunities to provide input by signing up below.
Grid Planning Events
CMP will host virtual meetings where technical information related to three main milestones will be presented for feedback and input. These milestones, which have been identified by the Public Utilities Commission, are:
- Milestone 1: When we have developed the inputs to run planning models
- Milestone 2: When a needs assessment is complete
- Milestone 3: When potential solutions are identified
Join us on Monday, January 27, from 12-1:30, for the Milestone 1 meeting on CMP’s Integrated Grid Plan.
- Learn about CMP’s Integrated Grid Plan
- Hear from CMP’s system planning team about how they develop planning models, and what inputs go into those models
- Provide feedback and let us know what matters most to you
- Register here!

CMP will host community meetings during the integrated grid planning process to ensure we hear directly from our customers and communities. These meetings will focus on CMP’s role in providing you electricity service, CMP’s role in grid and climate planning, and will provide an opportunity to with us about how electricity and the grid affect your life. Climate Change Planning Events
Climate change planning and grid planning go hand-in-hand, so to ensure that these efforts provide the greatest impact at the least cost, we’re seeking feedback that informs both initiatives. Climate change planning virtual meetings will take place throughout 2024 and 2025 as we execute our vulnerability study and resilience planning. Be sure to subscribe to email updates using the form above to receive all meeting notices.
