Central Maine Power Expects to Complete Service Restoration to Vast Majority Today
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
AUGUSTA, MAINE March 9, 2018, 1 p.m. Central Maine Power Co. (CMP), a subsidiary of AVANGRID Inc. (NYSE: AGR), says it expects to restore power by late this evening for the vast majority of customers who lost service during yesterday's Noreaster. The company estimates the storm affected more than 56,500 customers. By late Friday morning, service had been restored to more than 46,000 an estimated 82 percent. Greatest impact was in southern and coastal Maine.
We're proud of the tireless efforts by our storm recovery teams who worked through very difficult conditions to safely restore service to so many customers," said Doug Herling, CMP's president and CEO. "We will keep working until power is restored for everyone."
CMP's storm recovery team includes more than 520 lineworkers, tree workers, pole-setting crews, assessors, and others in support roles. More personnel and equipment have been moved to the hardest-hit areas, and crews are assigned to every circuit with reported outages. Heavy snow falling from trees and motor vehicle collisions with utility poles have caused some new outages and slowed restoration in some areas, however crews will continue working until service is back to the last customer.
The few customers who may still be without power late tonight will have service restored Saturday. The company continues to update estimated restoration times on its web site: CMP Outage
CMP's web site offers a broad range of outage information, including a description its restoration process (CMP Restoration) and tips for customers to stay safe and comfortable: Storm Safety
CMP continues to urge customers to stay clear of any downed power lines or debris that may be tangled in lines. Motorists should use caution when driving near utility crews. The working conditions are difficult, and the workers appreciate everyone's consideration for their safety.
