Central Maine Power Honors Local Businesses
That Helped with Recovery from Christmas Week Ice Storm
AUGUSTA, Maine, April 2, 2014 Central Maine Power Company (CMP), a subsidiary of Iberdrola USA, honored nine businesses from the Augusta and Belfast areas for extraordinary contributions during the recovery from the December 2013 ice storm. Sara Burns, president and CEO of Central Maine Power, hosted the special luncheon last week.
Burns told the group that recovery from a severe storm is a community effort.
"CMP is good at putting up poles and wire, but we also need people in the community like you right there beside us," she said, We're grateful that you stepped up."
Just days before Christmas, Maine was hit with a winter storm that left an inch or more of ice on trees, electric delivery infrastructure, and roads. Damage was particularly severe in the Capital District and parts of Maine's Midcoast.
Many businesses were closed for the holiday, making the storm recovery particularly challenging since CMP still needed to secure certain goods and services to aid recovery and to meet the needs of crews working 17-hour shifts. Many of the honored businesses provided food and lodging for repair crews, while others performed construction services that enabled CMP to complete a swift and safe recovery from the devastating storm.
