Central Maine Power Puts New Substation Into Service

AUGUSTA, Maine, September 28, 2017  Central Maine Power Co. (CMP), a subsidiary of AVANGRID Inc. (NYSE: AGR), has put its new Middle Street Substation into service in Lewiston. The facility is part of the energy company's $41.5 million Lewiston Loop project begun in 2016.

The project also includes a new five-mile 115-kilovolt overhead line feeding the facility from CMP's Larrabee Road Substation, a new one-mile 115-kilovolt underground transmission line, and other upgrades designed to enhance reliability in the Lewiston-Auburn area.

These upgrades will help to improve reliability and expand electrical capacity in the Lewiston-Auburn area, said Ellen Miller, vice president, Projects, for Avangrid Networks. The cities of Lewiston and Auburn have been active partners in the development and approval of this project, and Central Maine Power and AVANGRID thank both communities for their support while we work to maintain reliability into the future.

Construction of the underground line between the new Middle Street Substation and the existing Lewiston Lower Substation off Lisbon Street continues. In addition, upgrades at Lewiston Lower Substation will begin later this year and continue into 2018. De-commissioning of the existing indoor Lewiston Substation is also expected to happen later this year. Once complete, the building that once housed the indoor substation will be turned over to the City of Lewiston for future use.
