AUGUSTA, ME – January 16, 2025 – Make-A-Wish Maine has announced Central Maine Power (CMP) has been named as the recipient of its 2025 WishMaker Award. The award honors CMP for its 20-year commitment to supporting Make-A-Wish Maine through assisting with wishes, providing employee volunteers, and helping to support wish-granting for families in Maine. CMP was also honored with the Adopt-A-Wish Plaque for the company’s involvement in granting an eight-year-old Brighton girl’s wish to go on a princess-themed trip to Disney World with her family.
“Supporting the incredible work of Make-A-Wish Maine for so many children and their families has been a privilege and an honor for all of us at Central Maine Power,” said CMP president and CEO Joe Purington. “Whether through granting wishes or employee volunteering, partnerships like these reflect our commitment to the communities we serve. We are inspired by the courage of these children and their families, and we look forward to continuing this important work to brighten up their lives in the face of critical illness.”
CMP was instrumental in launching the Share the Power of a Wish telethon with WGME CBS13 and WPFO FOX23. CMP is proud to be a Make-A-Wish Presenting Partner. CMP also takes part in the annual TrailBlaze Challenge in September where participants tackle the terrain of the western Maine mountains with a nearly 25 mile hike. CMP has also been proud to support wishes granted throughout the year. Maine’s Make-A-Wish averages about one wish granted every four days!
“Make-A-Wish Maine can always depend on CMP. Their dedication and support from providing volunteers to paint sheds and dugouts, answering phones, and even helping plan magical wish reveals for our Maine families - all creates happiness and hope in the power of a wish,” Make-A-Wish Maine President and CEO Brian Franks said.
The WishMaker Award was created in celebration of former Make-A-Wish Maine President and CEO Kate Vickery. The WishMaker Award is given to a supporter who embodies selfless service, distinguished dedication, and a willingness to go above and beyond for the advancement of the Make-A-Wish mission.
