CMP President and CEO Doug Herling to Retire
Company celebrates Herling’s 36 years of service
Augusta, ME — June 3, 2021 — Central Maine Power (CMP) announced today that its President and CEO, Doug Herling, would be retiring after a 36-year career with the company. Herling joined CMP in 1985 as an Equipment Operator at Wyman Station in Yarmouth and worked his way up the ranks.
“I’d like to thank Doug for his leadership of CMP and his many contributions to the company over these more than three decades,” said David Flanagan, Executive Board Chair of CMP. “Doug’s deep operations knowledge along with his energy and determination will be missed.”
“Leading CMP has been an honor and a privilege,” said Herling. “CMP is a great company that has served Maine since 1899 and I know will continue to proudly serve our customers in Maine for many years to come. This has been more than just a job, it has been a mission to provide an essential service to Mainers every day.”
Herling led the construction and oversight of what to date has been Maine’s largest construction project on behalf of CMP, the Maine Power Reliability Project, creating greater power reliability throughout New England. The $1.4 billion project was completed in 2015, on time and under budget.
Herling has served as CMP’s President and Chief Executive Officer since 2018. He joined CMP in 1985 and during his tenure held various executive management positions at Avangrid Networks and CMP. Mr. Herling earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Marine Engineering from the Maine Maritime Academy.
Herling’s last day at the company will be June 30.
