CMP Send Crews to New Brunswick to Help With Storm Repairs

AUGUSTA, Maine, July 7, 2014 " Crews and additional personnel from Central Maine Power Company (CMP), a subsidiary of Iberdrola USA, departed for Canada Monday morning to provide mutual aid to a utility in New Brunswick. Nineteen two-man line crews, along with additional support personnel and equipment, are on their way to the Fredericton, New Brunswick area to help restore service for customers of New Brunswick Power

Hurricane Arthur brought high winds and heavy rains to the region, causing extensive damage to trees, tree limbs, and electrical equipment. New Brunswick Power described it as "the largest blackout in New Brunswick's history."

"Other companies from around New England and Canada have helped us recover from big storms," said Sara Burns, Central Maine Power president. "We know how tough conditions like that can be on utility workers and their customers. I believe it's important for utility companies to help their neighbors."

Accompanying the lineworkers to new Brunswick are several CMP supervisors, safety specialists, mechanics, and logistics specialists.

The CMP groups left from Augusta and Hermon Monday morning. They could be away from home for three to five days.
