CMP Sends Crews to Pennsylvania to Assist with Storm Recovery
AUGUSTA, Maine, February 6, 2014 Crews and additional personnel from Central Maine Power Company (CMP), a subsidiary of Iberdrola USA, departed for Pennsylvania Thursday morning to provide mutual aid to a utility in the Keystone State. Twenty-five two-man line crews, along with additional support personnel and equipment, are on their way to southeastern Pennsylvania to help restore service for customers of PECO.
This week's winter storm brought a mix of snow, ice, and freezing rain to the region, causing extensive damage to trees, tree limbs, and electrical equipment. It has been described as the second most damaging storm in PECO history.
"Other companies from around new England and Canada have helped us recover from big storms," said Sara Burns, Central Maine Power president. "We know how tough conditions like that can be on utility workers and their customers. I believe it's important for utility companies to help their neighbors."
Accompanying the lineworkers to the Keystone State are more than a dozen CMP supervisors, safety specialists, mechanics, and logistics specialists.
The group left Kennebunk service plaza at Maine Turnpike Exit 25 Thursday morning. They could be away from home for up to a week.
