Grant Recipient: Bowdoin College Location: Brunswick Vehicle: 2013 Chevy Volt About: Bowdoin College is a private liberal arts college. They have a number of sustainability initiatives on campus, and are committed to becoming carbon-neutral by 2020. Bowdoin received a $15,000 grant to help purchase a 2013 Chevy Volt, which is being used by students, faculty and staff.

Grant Recipient: The Chewonki Foundation Location: Wiscasset Vehicle: 2012 Chevy Volt About: The Chewonki Foundation is a non-profit institution that runs educational programs with an environmental focus. Chewonki received a $15,000 grant to help purchase a 2012 Chevy Volt, which is being used by a handful of employees regularly both on short trips and longer trips to travel to conferences all over the northeast.

Grant Recipient: Colby College Location: Waterville Vehicle: 2013 Toyota Prius Plug In About: Colby College is a private liberal arts college. They became carbon-neutral in 2013 and continue to seek opportunities to further their sustainability goals. Colby received a $15,000 grant to help purchase a 2013 Toyota Prius Plug In, which is being used by the maintenance crews, staff and students on campus.

Grant Recipient: Environment & Energy Technology Council of Maine (E2Tech) Location: Portland Vehicle: 2013 Toyota Prius Plug In About: E2Tech is a non-profit organization that seeks to build and expand the state’s environmental, energy, and clean technology sectors by communicating regularly with businesses, non-profit organizations, media, policymakers and the public. E2Tech received a grant of $13,507.96 to lease a 2013 Toyota Prius Plug In and to install a level 2 charging station. The electric vehicle is used by the Executive Director to travel to state and regional forums, meetings and events.

Grant Recipient: Fresh Air Ventilation Systems, LLC Location: Lewiston Vehicle: 2013 Smart Electric Drive About: Fresh Air Ventilation Systems, LLC is a for-profit business located in Lewiston that designs and installs energy efficient heat recovery ventilators for residential homes. The owner also currently serves as the president of the Maine Indoor Air Quality Council. Fresh Air Ventilation Systems received a grant of $8,708.60 to lease a 2013 Smart Electric Drive, which is used primarily by the owner.

Grant Recipient: Greater Portland Council of Governments (GPCOG) Location: Portland Vehicle: 2013 Nissan Leaf About: GPCOG is a non-profit organization that serves the municipalities and public service agencies of the Greater Portland region. GPCOG works on a variety of projects and initiatives including economic development, land use, transportation and energy planning. They run Maine Clean Communities, a program to promote the use of clean fuel and clean fuel vehicles with the goal of reducing petroleum consumption in the transportation sector. GPCOG received a grant of $10,883.41 to lease a 2013 Nissan Leaf, which is being used by staff members, and is also being lent out GPCOG member organizations.

Grant Recipient: Maine Energy Education Program (MEEP) Location: Gardiner Vehicle: 2013 Ford CMAX Energi About: MEEP is a non-profit organization with the goal of producing an energy literate citizenry capable of making informed energy choices. MEEP offers experiential energy educations programs for Maine students and teachers. MEEP received a grant of $11,890.18 to lease a 2013 Ford CMAX Energi, which is used by staff to travel to schools for its educational programs.

Grant Recipient: Maine Organic Farmers and Gardeners Association (MOFGA) Location: Unity Vehicle: 2013 Ford CMAX Energi About: MOFGA is the oldest and largest state organic organization in the country. Located in Unity, their purpose is to help Maine farmers and gardeners, and they conduct educational events throughout the year, including the Common Ground Country Fair, which draws 60,000 people in the best years. MOFGA received a grant of $15,000 to lease a 2013 Ford CMAX Energi, and install three level 2 charging stations. |
