Power Line Work Will Affect Traffic on Maine Turnpike (Interstate 95)
CMP Project Will Enhance Reliability of Grid

AUGUSTA, Maine, March 3, 2014  Central Maine Power Company (CMP), a subsidiary of Iberdrola USA, reports that construction crews will install new transmission lines across the Maine Turnpike/Interstate 95 in Farmingdale, near mile 105, from Monday, March
3, throughThursday, March 6. This project, part of the utility's Maine Power Reliability Program (MPRP), will affect traffic in both directions.

The work will require disruption of traffic for 20-minute intervals between the hours of 10 p.m. and 4 a.m. each night. CMP has been coordinating the work with the Maine Turnpike Authority and Maine State Police. State troopers and other personnel will be on site each night to oversee public safety. Message boards will be in place to inform approaching travelers of closures, and radio broadcasts on 1610 AM will also be used to inform drivers. Motorists are encouraged to find alternate routes if possible.

"Traffic needs to be stopped in both directions in order for this work to be done safely," said Gail Rice, CMP spokesperson. "We have scheduled this work for the overnight hours to minimize disruption, and appreciate motorists" patience and flexibility."

The MPRP will ensure the long-term reliability of CMP's bulk power system. The project includes the construction of four new 345kV substations, one new 115kV substation, and related facilities linked by approximately 440 miles of new transmission lines. The new facilities will reinforce the backbone of the company's 40-year-old bulk power system and improve reliability. The MPRP is the largest construction project ever undertaken in Maine. More than 2,700 people have been employed directly in the construction, and a 2009 economic impact study projected that the construction spending would generate as many as 900 more jobs through indirect and induced employment.
